King James Bible Search
The full-text search capability supports the following operators:
- (+) A leading plus sign indicates that this word must be present in verse that is returned.
- (-) A leading minus sign indicates that this word must not be present in any of the verses that are returned.
- (no operator) When neither + nor - is specified the word is optional, but the rows that contain it are rated higher in relevance.
- (*) The asterisk serves as a wildcard operator. Unlike the other operators, the asterisk should be appended to the end of the word. Words match if they begin with the word preceding the * operator.
- A phrase that is enclosed within double quote characters matches only rows that contain the exact phrase, as it was typed. Typing ("in the beginning") would return only verses that contain the phrase "in the beginning" within the verse.
The following examples demonstrate some search strings that use boolean
full-text operators:
- 'apple banana' - Find verses that contain at least one of the two words.
- '+apple +juice' - Find verses that contain both words.
- '+divided waters' - Find verses that contain the word “divided”, but rank rows higher if they also contain “waters”.
- '+divided +waters' - Find verses that only contain both words
- 'heaven*' - Find verses that contain words such as heaven, heavens, heavenly
